As the world turns: Looking To the GCC region

As one of the globe’s largest economies in addition to being a core member of both OPEC and G20, Saudi Arabia has successfully positioned itself as a major player—and platform—to host key government officials and top business leaders and innovators from around the world for important discussions impacting 2025 and beyond. Our President & Founder, Andrew Frank has been in Riyadh for several days to attend both large-scale events and smaller gatherings, and there are undoubtedly some key trends and topics that are being explored with profound business and geopolitical implications for not only those of us in the strategic advisory and communications industry, but for America’s relationship with the region more broadly.

Over the last twelve to eighteen months there is a clear movement that American and other investors and companies, are coming to the region not just to get money to invest at home, but now they are looking for opportunities to invest here. Creatives, investors, engineers, all are looking to see how they can find a way to build sustainable businesses in the region.

Some of the key areas of conversation and clear growth include:

Artificial Intelligence – Unsurprisingly, AI and its undeniable impact upon the private sector continues to dominate conversations in KSA and across the GCC. While Stanford’s fantastic Global Vibrancy Tool on artificial intelligence suggests that the American AI ecosystem continues to be the most influential and prominent internationally, virtually every nation has prioritized AI as a matter of critical national interest.

In the GCC, for example, countries such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE are rocketing the industry forward with heavy government investment in AI development, constructing large-scale data centers, and adeptly leveraging the technology for finance and healthcare purposes. The Kingdom is clearly creating, preparing and investing, in order to be right behind the United States and China at the forefront of AI innovations and expenditure.

Healthcare – Perhaps nowhere is the practical application of AI technologies more apparent in the GCC region than in its growing healthcare sector. With dramatic improvements and innovations on medical imaging, predictive analytics and robot-assisted surgery, major players in the U.S. such as Oracle Health, Cleveland Clinic, Mayo Clinic, and G42 have created impactful partnerships and collaborations across the region. We have already seen dramatic improvements in the type of care that patients in the GCC are able to receive in their host countries as opposed to traveling outside the region as they had done in the past.

 Sustainability – While the current U.S. administration has reversed clean energy policies and environmental protections in recent months, the GCC region remains committed to ensure water and food security, energy transition, and building climate-resilient cities. As such, American ‘green’ firms continue to thrive in the GCC, providing both hardware and guidance on grid solutions for renewables, GreenTech, and sustainable waste treatment and desalination facilities.

Simply put, it’s become quite clear over the past week that the state of America’s strategic partnership with Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) more broadly remains healthy and robust. With its multiple touchpoints across myriad public and private sector engagements—as evident in the three sectors outlined above and many, many more—convening in such places as Riyadh, Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Doha on a regular basis is imperative to driving progress and action and collectively addressing shared issues around the world.

على مدار الاثني عشر إلى الثمانية عشر شهراً الماضية، كان هناك اتجاه واضح بأن المستثمرين والشركات الأمريكية وغيرها من المستثمرين والشركات، لا يأتون إلى المنطقة فقط للحصول على أموال للاستثمار في بلدانهم، بل إنهم يبحثون الآن عن فرص للاستثمار هنا. يبحث المبدعون والمستثمرون والمهندسون عن طرق لبناء أعمال مستدامة في المنطقة

تشمل بعض المجالات الرئيسية للمحادثات والنمو الواضح ما يلي

الرعاية الصحية – ربما لا يوجد مكان في منطقة دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي يظهر فيه التطبيق العملي لتقنيات الذكاء الاصطناعي بشكل أكثر وضوحًا من قطاع الرعاية الصحية المتنامي. مع التحسينات والابتكارات الهائلة في مجال التصوير الطبي والتحليلات التنبؤية والجراحة بمساعدة الروبوتات، أقامت كبرى الشركات في الولايات المتحدة، مثل Oracle Health و Cleveland Clinic و Mayo Clinic و G42، شراكات وتعاونات مؤثرة في جميع أنحاء المنطقة. لقد شهدنا بالفعل تحسينات كبيرة في نوع الرعاية التي يمكن للمرضى في دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي الحصول عليها في بلدانهم المضيفة، بدلاً من السفر خارج المنطقة كما كانوا يفعلون في الماضي

الاستدامة – في حين أن الإدارة الأمريكية الحالية قد عكست سياسات الطاقة النظيفة وحماية البيئة في الأشهر الأخيرة، تظل منطقة دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي ملتزمة بالتخفيف من آثار تغير المناخ من خلال جهودها لضمان الأمن المائي والغذائي، وتحول الطاقة، وبناء مدن قادرة على التكيف مع تغير المناخ. وعلى هذا النحو، تواصل الشركات الأمريكية ”الخضراء“ ازدهارها في دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي، حيث توفر الأجهزة والتوجيهات بشأن حلول الشبكات للطاقة المتجددة، والتكنولوجيا الخضراء، ومرافق معالجة النفايات وتحلية المياه المستدامة

ببساطة، أصبح من الواضح خلال الأسبوع الماضي أن الشراكة الاستراتيجية بين الولايات المتحدة والمملكة العربية السعودية ومجلس التعاون الخليجي بشكل عام لا تزال سليمة وقوية. ونظراً لتعدد نقاط الاتصال بينهما عبر عدد لا يحصى من المشاركات في القطاعين العام والخاص - كما يتضح في القطاعات الثلاثة المذكورة أعلاه والعديد غيرها - فإن عقد اجتماعات منتظمة في أماكن مثل الرياض وأبو ظبي ودبي والدوحة أمر ضروري لدفع عجلة التقدم والعمل ومعالجة القضايا المشتركة في جميع أنحاء العالم بشكل جماعي
